Day 1: Melbourne to Echuca – 221km
Collect your vehicle from Melbourne and travel to Echuca, location of the world’s largest fleet of paddle steamers. Stay the next two nights at Echuca.
Day 2: Echuca
Relax on the deck of a paddle steamer, try water sports or browse the cafés, shops and restaurants of Echuca.
Day 3: Echuca to Swan Hill – 155km
Half an hour from Echuca is the Barmah State Forest, home to the Barmah Wetlands and one of the biggest stand of river red gum remaining on earth. Travel to Swan Hill with its colonial past on display at the Pioneer Settlement living museum (extra charge). Take a ride on a paddle steamer, a horse drawn carriage and vintage car. Overnight at Swan Hill.
Day 4: Swan Hill to Mildura – 223km
Journey from river bushland to a stunning desert environment. Mildura is a charming oasis with citrus groves and vineyards and home of Stefano De Pieri’s famous restaurant. Sample the array of fresh food and wine at local wineries, farm gates and markets. Stay the next two nights at Mildura.
Day 5: Mildura
Explore Mildura and its surrounding area. Visit the Murray-Sunset National Park, Victoria’s second largest national park with its abundant wildlife and colourful wildflowers. Alternatively, travel to the Mungo National Park and learn of the Aboriginal history throughout the area.
Day 6: Mildura to Ballarat – 453km
Travel to Ballarat and follow the sections of the Goldfields Tourist Route which take in important heritage sites and wineries. Or visit Sovereign Hill and see a re-creation of life during the gold rush era (extra charge). See the colourful costumes and horse-drawn vehicles along the Main Street and visit the various shops including grocers, candle makers, blacksmiths and jewellers. Overnight at Ballarat.
Day 7: Ballarat to Melbourne – 114km
Return to Melbourne at leisure.

Collect your vehicle and depart Melbourne heading to the Yarra Valley. Wineries offer cellar door tastings, sales and have restaurants serving gourmet food and fine local produce. Get close to Australian wildlife at Healesville Sanctuary (extra charge). Overnight at Yarra Valley.
Day 2: Yarra Valley to Phillip Island – 148km
Depart Yarra Valley and travel south to San Remo, before heading over the bridge to Phillip Island. The Penguin Parade occurs each evening at sunset (extra charge). Overnight at Phillip Island.
Day 3: Phillip Island to Mornington Peninsula – 107km
Depart Phillip Island heading around the bay to the Mornington Peninsula. Stylish Sorrento and Portsea are filled with antique shops, galleries, cafés and coastal walking trails. Visit Flinders on the eastern side of the Peninsula and Cape Schanck, the southernmost point of the Peninsula. Overnight at Mornington Peninsula.
